About J & H Schaefer Rustic Refurbishing

Hi, All. It's a pretty simple story. A few years ago, my wife and I decided to break apart a wooden pallet we had been holding onto and use the boards to create a homemade, hand-painted gift for some wonderful neighbors. That resulted in making another gift for a family gift exchange. Some kind words and compliments followed, and I began making a few more gifts here and there. As I was making gifts for family and friends, I was also occasionally making items for various fundraisers (silent auctions, raffles, etc.) and receiving a few more kind words and compliments. The best part of all this was the fun I had attempting new techniques, painting and seeing something that someone was ready to throw out turn into something worth keeping: some celebration of life or (wise) words to get someone through a trying time or give them a laugh. I have continued to enjoy this "hobby," so much so that I now make too many items. There just aren't enough people to give them to, and I have no way of knowing every fundraising event out there. If I do find out about one, it's likely that I make something organizers believe their attendees will want. So, I just keep making more and more items. It's a great getaway after a long school day (I teach third graders) or when I need a break from lesson-planning. What to do? I have attended a few vendor/craft events attempting to sell some, and have been semi-successful. My "success" has not or will not make me rich, but it has brought me joy of meeting others and hopefully bringing some joy to those who have purchased our items. Now, I am trying my hand at a marketplace (The Red Chicken). The most fun I have had in this whole endeavor has been working with customers to create something customized and personalized for them. We love making custom orders and believe it's a way for us to help you "share the love" to those you love and with yourself. We can work with you to create something truly special and unique. We've really never made the same item twice. We use a variety of boards, paints, stains, type-styles, etc. to create something one-of-a-kind for each item.
